Baba Yaga

Director Corrado Farina re-edited his film as an exclusive 1st for Shameless in order to show his vision of his film as he intended it to be before his producers hacked it to bits behind his back the day before the film opened in cinemas. Director Corrado Farina re-inserted the footage cut by the producers and took that opportunity to also reinsert prior censors cut. This is Director Corrado Farina’s avowed “own BABA YAGA”, which he had re-edited for Shameless, now this extended “redux” version is presented for the 1st time on blu-ray, finally doing justice to the filmmaker’s unique original vision. Perverted dreams and fevered reality are blurred when beautiful witch Baba Yaga (Carroll Baker) gets her sapphic claws into a beautiful young photographer in this rampant adaptation of the classic Guido Crepax comic-book.

The Beyond

One of the most iconic and seminal Horror cum-slasher film to come out of Italy. THE BEYOND is by fan-favourite director Lucio Fulci. Always at the top of imdb rating, it is acknowledged as Fulci’s most famous and important film. When jaded New Yorker (Catriona MacColl) inherits a New Orleans hotel, she calls on unflappable local doctor (David Warbeck) to contain the inexplicable, and increasingly gory surreal accidents that are plaguing the old building and its grounds. But soon the ‘Gates of Hell’ themselves open under the hotel, rendering their fight futile and their flight impossible as the Living Dead emerge to walk the earth. Cannibal Ferox

A decade on from starting the cannibal genre, director Umberto Lenzi has the final word, pushing the vomit envelope beyond the sick with his utterly nasty, nihilistic apotheosis that is CANNIBAL FEROX. So unredeemable that its own makers denounced it as barbaric..! An academic, Gloria (Lorraine De Selle), journeys to the Amazon jungle where things go awry when her party encounters sadistic druggy villain Mike (Giovanni Lombardo Radice aka John Morghen), as the travellers venture further into the heart of darkness, they soon discover what it means to be the hunted prey. CANNIBAL FEROX aka ‘Make Them Die Slowly’, topped the official Video Nasty list for its raw graphic scenes of torture, mutilations, murder and cannibalism. Flavia the Heretic

Director Gianfranco Mingozzi brings us FLAVIA THE HERETIC, one of the most graphically violent of all ‘nunsploitation’ films ever. It is so uncompromising and harsh that it courts the ranks of video nasties! It is also, however, an undeniably potent and thought-provoking film, that reflects on religiously condoned violence as well as misogyny. Set in the middle ages, FLAVIA THE HERETIC tells the story of Flavia whose tyrannical father forces her to become a nun. After the visit of the strange sexual Tarantula cult, to the nunnery, everything changes for Flavia. As an act of rebellion, she joins forces with an army of invading Muslims and becomes a heretic. Along with them, she aims to destroy the convent and kill everyone who wronged her. Based on true events from Medieval Italy; this is an incredible story filled with murder, rape, torture and worse. The Nurse

From the producers of ‘Doctor Zhivago’ comes a film that finally reveals URSULA ANDRESS in all her glory! Voted the TOP BOND GIRL of all time, Ursula Andress made cinematic history when she emerged from the sea in that bikini. Stagefright

Considered by critics a pinnacle of slasher movies, STAGEFRIGHT is now finally given the release it deserves, from a new 4K restoration, for us to marvel at the inventive genius of director Michele Soavi (Cemetery Man, The Sect, The Church) combining relentless graphic blood-splattered set pieces with his trademark witty filmmaking elegance – a quality not normally associated with slasher movies!

Soavi intended his film to be called Aquarius – or aquarium – alluding to the viewer being able to see the action as if it took place inside a fishbowl. Cleverly constructed to heighten suspense, the director intentionally mixes fake with reality: showing us the ‘real’ serial killer of our film as he infiltrates a group of stage actors rehearsing overnight in an isolated place; he kills and takes the place of the actor whose role in the play is that of a killer permanently hidden under a giant owl head! His identity unseen, the now real killer-owl stalks and dismembers the troupe one by one!

Schooled by Dario Argento and Terry Gilliam but with his own unique personal flair, Soavi’s first feature can finally be seen as intended, with this edition further benefitting from the director’s colour grading and framing indications given during a candid conversation filmed exclusively for one of the many Extras on this Special Edition disc.
